Not Another Resolutions Post!
Fear not! This is not another "New Year, New You" post. If you’re like me you’re tired of being told how to do better and be better. Frankly, it feels like the world is overdue to do better- I’m exhausted!
Still, it’s hard to resist a shiny new month at the start of a shiny new year. That clean slate and fresh possibilities feeling is so enticing. But I’m not going to encourage anyone to tackle the dust bunnies under their beds, swap popcorn dinners for quinoa bowls, or clean up their sailor’s vocabulary when I have no intention of doing any of those things myself.
What I will suggest is trying to be more content and more connected. If you play mahjong you can enlist your mahjong community to help with that. Think about branching out - play with new people in new places. It could improve your game or show you how amazing you already are! And you’ll meet new people. That's usually a very good thing.
My dad used to say, "You don’t have to learn everything the hard way." Consider taking a strategies class. Let someone else who’s figured out the hidden bits of mahjong strategy through trial and error teach you what they know. You benefit from their hard knocks and your game ratchets up a notch or two.
How about using those new boundaries you've been working on and return that Potato Powered Clock you got from wacky Uncle Walter? Think of it, you can exchange it for new tiles, or a pretty mat, or a fun piece of mahjong jewelry. Or just treat yourself because every time you use them, they'll make you smile.
If you don’t play mahjong (horrors!) - this is your year to learn. It’ll stretch your brain in all the right ways (not like your yoga pants after the holiday cookie fest). And you’ll have the beginnings of that community we talked about. That's kind of a big deal. These people have the potential of becoming your buds, your squad, your besties.
So forget the resolutions. Or giant proclamations of change. Set a few intentions and take the days on one at a time. And play mahjong with your pals. Always play mahjong.
